Description
The Bartons are an old Irish family from Co Fermanagh Ireland. Part of the family’s history was based in the Bordeaux’ region in the 18th century when Thomas Barton, who was in France for trade, got interested in the wine and settled his first companyรขโฌโขwhich would later become Barton & Guestier. He quickly became the first trader of Bordeaux (he was known as French Tom) and built up a solid reputation with a faithful clientele throughout Europe. However the law of escheatage, abolished in 1819, held him back from acquiring his own vineyard. It is only in 1821 when Hugh Barton, his grandson, purchased Chรยขteau Langoa, and in 1825, a part of the domain of Lรยฉoville, that the foundations of the wine dynasty were laid in the Mรยฉdoc region.
The 2018 Lรยฉoville-Barton is a gorgeous, exotic wine. Crรยจme de cassis, lavender, menthol, licorice and cloves race out of the glass. The 2018 marries the natural opulence of the year with a pretty classic sense of structure.รย
