Description
This Cru Bourgeois property is currently run by brother and sister Fabien & Vรยฉroniqueรย Courrian, the family aquired the vineyard in 1877 รย andรย they are the 4th generation of winemakersรย though the family has been living in Blaignan-Medoccan sinceรย 1634. Their fatherรย Phillipe has moved his wine making passion to Chateau Cascadais in Corbieriesรย .รย
They maintain a very traditional approach to viticulture and wine making, using no chemicals, only compost which they makes themselves from grape stalks and cuttings,รย a fact noticeable by the greenness of their vineyard against theirรย neighbours. While in the Medoc mechanical harvesting is common, they believe in hand-picking. They also use no form of filtration. The wine is said to compete favourably with Bordeaux fifth growths such as Lynch-Bages.
In recognition of the quality of this wine poet and writer Armand Got wrote in 1959. Chรยขteau La Tour-Haut-Caussan, Subtle Mรยฉdoc soft as cream, Brings a full, intense emotion To the dream… รย รย รย รย
The wine is a deep dark ruby colour.รย A nose ofรย tobacco, cedar and blackcurrant with a whiffรย of leather. Medium bodied with theรย aromas reflected in the palate and followed by integrated tannins on a firm lingering finish.รย
